Santander Golf Tour at La Penaza GC

The first tournament of the season was held at La Penaza GC just outside of Zaragoza, Spain. The course was in absolutely beautiful shape! It was forecasted very cold and rainy weather for the whole week, but very little rain showed. This event was meant as a warm up-event before the Let Access Season starts at Terre-Blanche Golf Resort close to Nice, France next week. I shot +8, +2, and ended +10 for the tournament and T22. A small insight into my stats for the week: I hit 86% of the fairways both rounds, and 61% & 78% of the greens (respectively). Had 38% and 50% scrambling rates (respectively). The putter is really where I lost the most strokes to the field, 11 (!!..) the first day and just over 4 the second day, characterized by too many three-putts and short putts missed.

This time, I also got to experience a lot of Zaragoza, which was so much fun. This city is actually the 5th largest in Spain, and so there was a few things to see. It was also very pretty and enjoyable to walk around in. The Basilica de Nuestra Senora del Pilar was absolutely amazing. It is probably the biggest church I have ever been in, and the artwork and the details covering the walls and the roof was magnificent. I also spent some time at the Goya museum. (Francisco de Goya was actually born in Zaragoza). The museum was beautiful and had tons of paintings, which were all beautiful and a cool experience to see in real life. Zaragoza also has several other churches and museums! The best place to eat tapas would be the local food market. Soo many different types of food!!

On my day off my mom and I walked all around Madrid. There was a lot to see here as well. We walked through the Parque de El Retiro, which has numerous attractions in it; the Palacio de Cristal, the Monumento a Alfonso XII (which is a must see when in Madrid, just absolutely magnificent), and tons of other incredible sculptures. Around Puerta de Alcala, which is an entrance to the park, there are a lot of cafes and restaurants. The view was incredible but food was a bit pricy. We also spent probably 2 hours at the famous Museo del Prado (got to see half of the museum and its artworks because it´s just so big). Next on our very busy one-day sightseeing we walked to the Miguel de Cervantes Monument at Plaza de Espana, and passed the Palacio de Cibeles and the Metropolis building, before we did a tour inside of the Spanish Royal Palace (Palacio Real). Again, an incredible experience, and something definitely worth doing when in Madrid. We then discovered a Picasso Museum and spontaneously went in here too. The last visits were Plaza Mayor, a grand square with tons of restaurants, and the Mercado de San Miguel, a gigantic food market with many great tapas options.
