After playing some steady golf during the 4 Sunshine Ladies Tour events, I had a good ranking on the overall order of merit causing me to get into the two European Tour events that were held in South Africa. The first one was held at Modderfontein Golf Club, about 30 minutes outside of Johannesburg. Continued my good play, and shots steady scores of -1, +2, -2, and E. It was fun to see the potential of my game, and that if I have the week, I can be among the top players. I finished tied for 21st, which I was happy about in my LET debut. There are always things that could be better, and it´s easy to focus on the bogeys or opportunities missed, but overall there were a lot of good things from the week.
The second LET event was helt at beautiful Steenberg Golf Club, in Cape Town. From the first couple of holes, I could tell my game was just a little “off”. There were a few things that affected my game too much, and it cost me shots during the first 9 holes. On the back 9, I fought hard to get back to par, but I really struggled to read the greens. The way the draw was that week, some groups had a lot of rain and wind both days, while some groups only saw the sun. I was unfortunate enough to be in the draw that meant the most rain and wind. Playing in rain itself is not bad at all, but it makes the fairways more soft so the ball goes short and we will have longer clubs into the greens than the players who played in the sun and on a drier course. During my second round, there was so much wind (as well as rain), that there was a big difference in the way the course was played. When you need to make only birdies to make the cut it´s a bigger challenge. But sometimes, that´s how it is. Sometimes you´re lucky with the draw, and sometimes you´re not. If you´re a good player, you´ll also master those kind of conditions. I didn´t this time, and so I ended the trip with a missed cut. Obviously dissapointed with that, but overall there was a lot of good stuff to take with me from the trip. I learned a lot, and I was also proud of playing 6 tournaments in a row without not completely being low on energy. So that was also a big step.
My good finish during the first LET event gave me some important points on the order of merit. All the steady play over the 6 tournaments also gave me an overall 6th place finish on the Sunshine Tour OOM, which I´m proud of! The points from the LET event will probably give me a good re-rank when the tour does a reshuffle of the LET categories this week. That means that hopefully I´ll get into more LET events during the season, and that that´s where I´ll be playing this year. But still have to wait and see!
